How it started
JoinPDFs has been around since 2015. Back then it did exactly one thing: you picked some PDFs, they got uploaded to our server, the server stuck them together and you downloaded the result. No frills, and plenty of people used it to get one file out of a pile of them.
It worked, but it always bugged us a little that people's tax forms and scanned IDs were taking a round trip through our server just to get glued together.
The 2026 rebuild
Browsers have gotten seriously powerful. These days a web page can open, edit and save PDFs right on your own device, no server required. So in 2026 we rebuilt JoinPDFs from scratch around that idea.
Now every tool runs in your browser. When you merge PDFs, your phone or computer does the work, and your files never get uploaded to us. You can even load a tool, turn on airplane mode and keep going. We explain how that works, and how to check any site, in is it safe to merge PDFs online?
While we were at it, we added a pile of new tools: split, compress, organize, rotate, page numbers, watermarks, signatures, image conversions and more. You can see the whole list on the PDF tools page.
Who runs it
JoinPDFs is run by a small independent team, not a giant software company. We build simple, useful sites and try to keep them fast, honest and out of your way.
How it's free
There are ads on the site. That's it. That's the business model. No premium tier, no "3 free merges a day," no watermark on your files, no account. We try to keep the ads out of the way of the tools so you can get your stuff done.
Ads and basic analytics use cookies (you can read the details in our privacy policy), but they never see your documents, because your documents never leave your browser.
What we care about
- Your files are yours. We don't upload them, store them or look at them.
- Straight answers. If a tool has a limit, like compression making text unselectable or password-protected PDFs not working, we say so on the page.
- Works on whatever you've got. iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, Chromebook. If it has a modern browser, it should work.
