Fix sideways pages for good
You can rotate the view in almost any PDF reader, but that only changes what you see, and only until you close it. Send the file to someone else and they get the sideways version. Rotate PDF actually saves the new orientation into the file, so it opens the right way for everyone, on every device.
Rotate everything or just some pages
- All pages. Use the Rotate all buttons to turn the whole document left or right. Great when an entire scan came out sideways.
- Single pages. Click a thumbnail to turn just that page 90 degrees. Click again for 180, again for 270. Perfect for the one landscape spreadsheet buried in a portrait report.
- Reset. Changed your mind? Reset puts every page back the way it came in.
Why pages end up sideways in the first place
Usually it's a scanner or a phone. Phone scanning apps guess orientation from how you're holding the phone, and they guess wrong a lot, especially if you shoot straight down at a table. Sheet feeders flip pages that went in upside down. And some apps export landscape pages with the content turned instead of the page, which ends up looking sideways in other readers.
Does rotating hurt quality?
Not at all. We don't redraw the page. We change the rotation setting stored with each page, which is exactly how Acrobat and Preview do it. Text stays sharp and searchable, and the file size barely changes.
A couple of tips
- Check the thumbnails, not the page numbers. On big scans, sideways pages jump out in the preview grid.
- Need to also delete or reorder? Organize PDF does rotating, deleting and dragging all in one place.
- Rotated a merged file? If you're about to merge PDFs, it's often easier to merge first and rotate the odd pages afterward in one pass.
- Printing? Most printers handle mixed portrait and landscape pages fine, so don't worry about making them all match.
Saved rotation vs. "view" rotation
Acrobat Reader, Preview and Edge all have a rotate button, and it's easy to assume that fixes the file. In most of them it only turns your view. Close the file, reopen it and it's sideways again. Some apps do save the change, but only if you remember to save, and some quietly don't. Rotating here always gives you a new file with the rotation saved, so there's no guessing.
Landscape pages are not mistakes
Wide tables, timelines and slide decks are often supposed to be landscape. If you rotate them to portrait, the content ends up running sideways down the page. The rule of thumb: rotate until the text reads left to right, and don't worry about whether the page itself is tall or wide. Mixed portrait and landscape pages in one PDF are totally normal.
On iPhone and Android
Tap Select file, choose your PDF and tap the pages that need turning. When you save, it lands in your Downloads or the Files app. The thumbnails are big enough to tap without zooming.
Private, nothing uploaded
Rotating happens in your browser on your own device. Your PDF isn't sent anywhere, and closing the tab clears it from the page.
