Keep the good part, skip the rest
You only need page 4 of the 90-page benefits handbook. Or the signature page from a contract. Or three pages of a textbook PDF to print for class. Extract pulls exactly those pages into a brand new PDF and leaves the rest behind.
How to pick pages
- Click thumbnails. Selected pages get a check mark. Handy when you're hunting by eye.
- Type a list. Enter something like
2, 7, 15-18. Ranges with a dash, separate pages with commas. - Mix both. Type a rough range, then click to add or remove a few.
Extracted pages come out in normal page order. Want them in a different order? Extract them, then drag them around in Organize PDF.
One file or several?
Extract gives you one PDF containing all the pages you picked. If you'd rather have each section as a separate file, that's what Split PDF is for. Quick rule of thumb: extract to make a short version, split to break something into pieces.
Things people use this for
Sending only what's needed
A mortgage broker wants "page 1 and the signature page" of your bank statement, not all 14 pages with every coffee you bought. Extract just those and send that.
Making a handout
Pull the relevant chapter out of a long manual, add page numbers, and you've got a neat handout.
Saving a single receipt
Monthly statements and order histories often bury the one receipt you need for an expense report. Extract that page and attach it.
Extracting on a phone
On a small screen, typing page numbers is a lot faster than scrolling through tiny thumbnails. Look up the pages you need in your PDF reader first, then type them in. The extracted PDF saves to your Downloads, ready to share from the Files app or your file manager.
Quality and what comes along
Pages are copied exactly, not re-printed or redrawn. Text stays selectable, images stay crisp, and links on those pages generally keep working. The new file is usually much smaller than the original, though shared items like fonts get copied along with the pages that use them.
Working with really big PDFs
Got a 500-page manual or a giant scanned book? Extract still works, it just takes a moment to draw all the thumbnails. If you already know the page numbers, type them in the box and skip scrolling entirely. The new file is built only from the pages you pick, so even if the original is 80MB, a three-page extract is usually tiny and easy to email.
Printed page numbers vs. real page numbers
Books and reports often have a few unnumbered pages up front, a cover, a table of contents, maybe roman numerals. That means the page with "12" printed at the bottom might actually be the 16th page in the file. We always count from the very first page of the file. If your extract grabs the wrong pages, look at the thumbnails and use their position, not the number printed on the page.
Private by design
This runs in your browser. Your PDF isn't uploaded to us at any point, which is nice when the document is a bank statement or anything else you'd rather not hand to a stranger's server.
